Books for christian dating couples
by Henry Cloud and John Townsend, I jumped at the opportunity, hoping to be both challenged and affirmed. And I finished the book with confirmation that I’m on the right track. After all, I’m always game to glean additional information about healthy dating relationships for my future. But, to be honest, I also struggled to connect at times. I even wanted to throw the book out the window at one point, but hunkered down and kept on reading. Here’s the deal: Dating is a topic on which I have a whole lot of head knowledge, but no real practical experience. He was reacting against the casual, recreational, aimless dating that had come to dominate the American landscape. But, as we are so prone to do, we took good principles and distorted them and distilled them into a series of unhelpful/legalistic practices. He was trying to help young men and women stop hurting each other through the endless hooking up, breaking up, hooking up, breaking up, etc. Dating/courting has turned into an elaborate set of unwritten rules which must be followed to the letter, no matter what the circumstances. But the reality is, you can’t slap these practices on top of every relationship and expect the relationship to go well.I believe that God pairs us up with people that complement the gifts, talents, and personalities that He has given us – if we let Him. The guys I dated before I began dating my husband were not all bad guys. We genuinely cared about each other and had fun together. But in each relationship there were things that didn’t feel quite right. And here’s the kicker: believe it or not, the Bible doesn’t actually say a whole lot about dating/courting relationships. When we place our above Biblical principles, it’s a recipe for disaster.
I decided that I wanted nothing less than God’s best for me. It means if you have doubts about the relationship, if your significant other doesn’t treat you with the upmost respect, if you argue more than you get along, if you constantly find yourself defending him or her to your friends, then end it.

Despite over a decade of prayer, a proper attitude toward the commitment and responsibility of marriage, and realistic expectations, it just hasn’t happened. But, at the same time, in this long season of singleness, I’ve had a lot of time to think and pray about these things.
I’ve wrestled with what I believe about dating, its purpose, and whether or not it’s good for me to date (with proper boundaries, of course!
